“TOUR DE FRANCE" OF FRENCH WINES

HOSTED BY  DENIS MORANGE & JOHN KERRY

Preiss Henny Pinot Blanc - Alsace

The PREISS-HENNY family has been in the winemaking business since 1535.  Up to the present day this highly regarded wine house has remained steadfastly family owned. It was originally located in the beautiful "Chateau de Mittelwihr" which was sadly destroyed during the war in 1944. The wine is 100% Pinot Blanc grown on limestone and clay soil.   It is elegant with a hint of spice, well- rounded yet delicate, combines freshness and softness, representing the happy medium in the range of Alsace wines.

Chateau Haut Mondain Blanc – Bordeaux

The wine is from Bordeaux, France. It is a wonderful blend of 5 0% Semillon, 25% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Muscadelle, the wonderful blending grape that adds complexity. The wine’s brilliant yellow color is flecked with green.  Its distinct and expressive nose has hints of citrus that are also found in the taste. Overall it is very elegant and refreshing.  In Florida it is often referred to as a “pool or beach wine”

Prosper Maufoux St Veran – Macon

This wine is 100% Chardonnay, stainless steel fermented and has undergone malolactic fermentation. It takes its name from the village of Saint-Verand (The “D” was mysteriously dropped). It received appellation status in 1971 because the French government recognized the wines produced there had much the same character and quality of Pouilly-Fuisse.   It is clean, fresh and dry with nice lemon and lime flavors.

Prosper Maufoux Chardonnay Elegance – Burgundy

The cuvee Elegance is a blend of careful blending of grapes originating in different vineyards in Cote de Beaune and Maconnais. This wine is produced from100% Chardonnay, fermented in new oak casks after 12 months on the lees.  Malolactic fermentation is completed before bottling.  The wine has a bright gold color, floral nose, fresh, fruit flavors that are full in the mouth.  It is rich, round and elegant with a solid structure, smooth and long lasting finish.

Prosper Maufoux Beaujolais Brouilly

This is the largest and most well knows of the Beaujolais Crus. 100% Gamay grapes.Stainless steel fermented and carbonic maceration completed. The wine has a deep ruby color flecked with violet; a highly aromatic nose suggesting dark red fruits and flowers.  The body is full and supple with a very agreeable freshness. Brouilly surrounds the volcano Mont Brouilly and gets its name from the dark reddish volcanic soil.

Prosper Maufoux Pinot Noir – Burgundy

This wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, 50% barrel fermented and 50% stainless steel fermented. It has a deep ruby color, dark fruit aromas, moderate tannins supported by good acidity.   The wine is smooth, well-rounded and harmonious, well-balanced, firm and has a long lasting finish.

Chateau Haut Mondain Rouge – Bordeaux

This wine is from Bordeaux, France and is a wonderful blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc.  This Old World style wine is medium bodied, graceful and delicate.  It has hints of oak with soft tannins and a round finish.  Of all the Bordeaux wines this wine was selected to be served at the French Pavilion during the Epcot Wine & Food Festival at Walt Disney World.

Chateau Le Cone – Bordeaux

This wine is grown in the Cotes de Blaye, Bordeaux  and is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.  It is fermented in Oak and has the aromas of fresh cherries and herbs followed by a round mouth feel with flavors of black cherry and black currant. The finish expresses velvety tannins and a slight vanilla characteristic.  The wine is drinking nicely now but will develop for 5-6 years.  Some would say this is more of a New World wine in it’s style.
