ITALIAN WINE WEEK - ANGELO PITTARO WINES

Cantina San Martino, Founded in 1968 by Angelo Pittaro and nowadays run by his 4 sons nicknamed “the Pitars”,Has such a story behind; the story of a family, the story of a passion. It’s about love: love for a land and its scents, love for its rhythms and seasons, a story about tradition but also about changes.

It’s the early post-war period when a man named Romano Pittaro decides to improve the art of vine and wine-making. He is a self-made, taught person: with obstinacy and resolution he learns a new trade made for him, adding step by step his new experiences and intuition to his studies.

Today this Cantina (winery) brings important numbers to the table: 125 hectares (308 acres) of property, 100 of which are dedicated to vineyard in the heart of Friuli’s “Grave”. Each hectare has a density of 5,000 vines and every vine produces 2-2.5 kg of grapes. It’s a small quantity but this is the way to obtain better quality. Cantina’s workers make by-hand dry pruning, while all the other operations are mechanized, including the harvest.

Roscato Di Vilafranca White Wine

Elegant Mediterranean white with delicate bouquet. Fruity, dry, fresh with good acidity, suitable expecially to fish, salads and light meals

Queen Rose Pinot Grigio
Our Pinot Grigio Rose is the natural expression of this grape variety. We have produced this wonderful wine by gently extracting the natural colors of Pinot Grigio during fermentation. The result is a fruity refreshing wine kissed by the Italian sun for your drinking pleasure.

Angelo Pittaro Pinot Grigio

Is a distinctive wine with strong personality. It has a deep brassy yellow color with hint of partridge eye; clean fresh nose with touch of sulfur-like stony mineral notes and hard pear, apple and raw almond meat, spice and exotic fruits

Angelo Pittaro Chardonnay
A good structure, nice and elegant body; on the nose it recalls nice scents of ripe apple, fig, apricot and tangerine and very soft and full in the mouth.

Angelo Pittaro Cabernet Sauvignon

It has an intense ruby red color tending to violet with the age. The aroma is delicate, slightly herbaceous with raspberry hints when young. Great pairing with cold cuts in general, white and red meat, poultry and hard cheeses.

Angelo Pittaro Merlot
Very deep crimson; more the sage and herb style with some wild berry notes; soft and full with some earthy roasted notes too. Touch of bitterness in the finish. Great pairing with red meat, poultry, medium aged cheese.

Borgo Tonello Pinot Noir

Nice and elegant, with a good structure, this typical red wine has a nice ruby color. Quite a meaty nose with tomato, herb, dark cocoa and strawberry compote; nice balance with pleasing acidity, very succulent. Suggested to pair with soupd, red and white meat, stews and fresh cheeses.

Roscato Di Vilafranca Red Wine
Coming from the new generation of blended reds from central Italy. This wine has a lovely deep colour and a full fresh and fruity nose. An easy uncomplicated wine of good quality and value, appealing to all lovers of the Italian style.
